We all look forward to having independence: getting your drivers license, graduating high school, moving out on your own.  However true joy is not found in these milestones; rather as a Christian, true joy is found living in dependence on God.  In Him we can find all that we need and what our hearts truly desire. Come hear what God has in store for you!

Finding God's Voice

The Man-Sask Youth Rally in Saskatoon concluded this past weekend. It was held at the Victoria Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Saskatoon. Friday night, Nov 18, Pastor Jordane Smith began her series on the weekend theme of “Speak”. There are so many distractions in this modern world and her sermons were designed to help others listen to God “speak” in their lives and actually hear the loving call of God.

Sabbath morning there were over 190 people in attendance, including Victoria Avenue members and then evening programs had over 110, a healthy increase over previous youth rallies.

Sabbath afternoon included outreach opportunities for street ministry and homeless ministry. Attendee Kristian Wall, from Winnipeg, said that “singing at a homeless shelter was quite nice, because at first it was kind of nerve-wracking to sing for them, I’ve never done that before, but as you get into it and you can see the looks on people’s faces, I felt like we were doing a good deed, that’s what I thought…I hope we blessed someone that weekend.” Though the day was cloudy and chilly, the youth brought many smiles to people’s faces through flowers, high fives, and their voices.

As the weekend drew to a close and the last song was sung, the youth gathered together around the stage to sing “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me…” May the youth be inspired to follow God’s voice and know that they are loved and are worth so much in God’s eyes. Ryan Aikens, also from Winnipeg, said, “my highlight was being with all my friends and getting to meeting new people and getting together and coming closer”.

The weekend would not have been a success without the help of a group of young adults from Saskatoon called LOGOS Collective.  The members of this group are talented and passionate about ministry and took much of the lead for the rally.  The Youth Department were honored to work with them and thank them for the hard work that they put into the weeks of planning and into the weekend itself.

Special thanks also to Pastor Julio and the Victoria Ave. Church who graciously opened up their doors to host this event.  Many of the church members dove into helping with the weekend events and supporting the youth.  We also want to thank all the adult sponsors who made this weekend a reality for their local youth.  There were many parents and youth leaders who drove van loads of youth many hours so that the youth could come.  We are blessed to have such devoted adults for our youth.

Belize 2017

This year, we will be building a school for a young church that is growing fast in the small village of Billy White in Belize.   All Man-Sask participants will travel to Edmonton where we will meet up with the Alberta participants to fly to Belize.  Our flights are from Edmonton to Toronto and then directly to Belize City.  The Borland Family will be picking us up by school bus at the airport and taking us the last stretch of our trip to the Faith FM Radio Station in Santa Elina, our home for the week.  Each day we will travel to the worksite to build a brick school and spend time with the kids at the Adventist school there.  We will take a day out our busy schedule to swim and snorkel in the ocean.  There is some world-class snorkeling in the area and you will be amazed by the beautiful coral and fish.  At the end of our trip, we will say good-bye to all of our new friends and fly back to Edmonton.

Participants should be 16 years old and older. To register to become a participant on the trip, please fill in an application form and return to Sandra Wall at the Man-Sask Conference.

This year’s mission trip date is April 12-19, 2017.

The trip cost is $1800 each and includes flights, ground transportation, food, lodging, snorkeling, and project costs. Please take note that all monies will go through the Alberta Conference of SDA.

Speak. At times the world around us becomes too loud and we can’t hear the Voice of one who loves. The screens scream at us to give our attention to the images flashing there. The homework, exams, and to-do-lists exhaust all of our time. Our minds struggle to find peace in the constant barrage of sound entering our senses. The Voice we need to hear is calling.  Come join us as we seek to quiet the noise and listen for God’s voice.  Speak Lord, we are listening.
